Choosing a school principal – and choosing wisely

Jobbsikkerhet, høy lønn og anseelse: Skoleledere (rektorer) har tradisjonelt hatt ettertraktede stillinger. Økte rapporteringskrav og flere oppgaver kan likevel ha satt stillingene mer under press. Et sentralt spørsmål i Fafos nye forskningsprosjekt om rekruttering av skoleledere er om skolene klarer å få de beste lederne til jobben. Hvis ikke – hva kan gjøres?

Traditionally the position as principal/school manager (Norwegian: «skoleleder») has been prestigious, well paid and had a high degree of job security. An increase in the number of tasks and reporting demands might have altered the scope of the position. A new research project will investigate the recruitment processes for school managers. Are the best leaders chosen? And if not, what can be done?
