Socio-economic Impact of Afghan Refugees on Pakistan

The overall objective of the project is to produce a study on socio-economic impacts of Afghan refugees on Pakistan.

The project is comprising the following three dimensions: - Measuring economic impact of Afghan refugees on the host country’s economy (macroeconomic level); - Measuring economic impact of Afghan refugees on the host-communities’ economy (microeconomic level); - Measuring impact of Afghan refugees on the host-communities ’ social environment (macro and micro-level).

Fafo research foundation is commissioned to conduct a study on the “socio-econnomic impact of Afghan Refugees in Pakistan” by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The study is intended to present a balanced assessment of impacts of the presence of Afghan refugees on the country as a whole and the communities that host them – both qualitative and quantitative. The analysis will serve as evidence based reference point for future deliberations by various stakeholders on the subject of Afghan refugees in Pakistan and was requested by the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) and its office of Chief Commissioner for Afghan Refugees (CCAR). The Study is conduct in collaboration with Noragric (NMBU) and COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Pakistan.
