This report on child labour in the tobacco growing sector in Africa was produced by Fafo to provide background material for the conference “Eliminating Child Labour: Establishing Best Practice in Tobacco Farming” in Nairobi 8-9th October 2000. The conference was organised by the International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers’ Association (IUF), the International Tobacco Growers’ Association (ITGA) and British American Tobacco (BAT). The report includes information on the child labour situation in Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
