The main goal of the project is to understand how rules that protect employees’ privacy work in Norwegian workplaces, especially as new technology is introduced. The project will look at how these rules are understood and used in everyday practice. It will also assess whether employees’ right to privacy is properly balanced with other legitimate needs.
The project will cover four main issues:
The use of digital control and monitoring systems in working life, including different technical tools with monitoring potential.
Practices within companies and organizations.
Awareness of, and attitudes toward, the regulations.
Private use of work phones and the use of social media in work-related contexts.
The project is based on both quantitative and qualitative data, including a survey of company managers, a survey of employees, and in-depth interviews with employers and employee representatives.
