In the future, will social inequality in Norway follow ethnic dividing lines? The answer hinges on how the children of immigrants fare in adulthood.
This chapter describes the situation of children of immigrants at two different points in time using linked survey and register data. We examine patterns in childhood environment, family relations and aspirations for the future at age 16 and investigate outcomes in education and employment five years later.
We find that while many children of immigrants experience rapid social mobility, some groups are at higher risk of negative outcomes in early adulthood.
