CILS-NOR: The Children of Immigrants Longitudinal Study in Norway

The project aims to study intergenerational adaptation and social mobility among children of immigrants and their majority peers in Norway.

The Children of Immigrants Longitudinal Study (CILS) in Norway aims to study intergenerational adaptation and social mobility among children of immigrants and their majority peers in Norway, and to develop an empirical and theoretical understanding of the causal interplay between structural, social and cultural dimensions of integration. The CILS-design represents the most comprehensive, standardized panel studies on intergenerational integration of children of immigrants, and has been or is being implemented in the USA, UK, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Sweden and Spain. Researchers involved in CILS studies in each of these countries will take part in a collaborative network to promote comparative research and perspectives, providing not just a standardized methodology, but also an analytical framework for studying adaptation and social mobility among children of immigrants within a comparative perspective.
