Tyldum is a Research Professor at Fafo, with more than 20 years of experience from both applied and more academically oriented research projects. She has a particular interest in international migration and what shapes migration decisions, and she has worked extensively in Russia, Ukraine, and other countries in Eastern Europe.
Tyldum has published widely on migration in refugees populations, labour migration, and human trafficking, and has several publications on ethical and methodological challenges in research on vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations. She has led several major studies addressing policy responses and adaptations to high arrival numbers of refugees from Ukraine, with a particular focus on the interplay between the state, county, and municipal levels.
Since the full-scale invasion in February 2022, she has led several research projects aimed at understanding Ukrainian refugees and Russian migrants experiences in exile.
Tyldum is proficient in Norwegian, Russian, and English as working languages.

Completed projects
Fafo will investigate the possibilities and limitations municipal authorities have for influencing the situation of migrants without legal residence, in five Norwegian cities.
In this project, MARE, we look at Europe's role in the management of migration and refuges in 4 areas, Amman in Jordan, the Bequaa Valley in Lebanon, Agades in Niger and Nakivale refugee camp in Uganda.
